Vilnius – Aukštaitija National Park – Miškiniškės – Vilnius

Day 1.

Arrival in Vilnius airport. Transfer to the hotel and accommodation. Overnight in the hotel.

Day 2.

Meeting a guide. A trip to the Aukštaitija National Park located in the north east of Vilnius, the region of lakes, forests and rich wildlife. On the way visiting Joneikiškės – the “Europe Park” exposition: open-air sculpture park in the forest, exhibition of sculptures created by artists from Japan, the USA, Ireland, Great Britain, Greece, etc. Arriving to Palūšė – the recreation centre of Aukštaitija National Park. Getting acquainted with Palūšė’s 19^th c. wooden church, a trip to the ancient Salos, Šuminai, Strazdai and Vaišnoriškės ethnographical villages. In Stripeikiai village visiting the unique bee-keeping museum in Lithuania. Ginučiai water mill, climbing the Ladakalnis hill. In the evening arriving to the Miškiniškės – an old misterious village, lying perdue in the forests, covering the authentic spirit of our ancestors, with a history of 200 years. Near the homestead there is an enclosure, where fallow-deers, deers and wild boars live. Miškiniškės is a unique corner in Lithuania, where a real and harmoniuos connection between a man and nature reveals. This connection in most European countries is lost a long time ago. Settling at the homestead. Bathhouse and the bonfire. Overnight.

Day 3.

All day in Miškiniškės. Active rest (5 hour duration water journey in the Utenis, Utenykštis and Baltelė lakes and the Būka river). In case of a cross weather – a day of ancient Lithuanian crafts. 1) Wood carving – getting acquainted with a carving craft master and his works that are possible to buy. Learning to carve at his supervision (spoons, tubes, pipes and so on). 2) Sculpturing from clay: getting acquainted with a master and his works. Manual sculpturing from clay. Demonstration of ancient clay jobs roasting ways. 3) Weaving from willow switches: the primer of this craft and acquaintance with master’s jobs, weaving. 4) Texture weaving: acquaintance with the master. Weaving strips in Archaean way without any machine. The exposition of master’s jobs (possible to buy). The Doll theatre show in the evening. Overnight.

Day 4.

Returning to Vilnius. City tour of Vilnius includes the Old Town (one of the largest and most beautiful in Central and East Europe, included into UNESCO Heritage list), Gediminas castle, Cathedral, monument for the Great Knight Gediminas, St. Anne’s Church, the Dawn Gate, Vilnius University campus and the church of St. Johns. The streets of “Užupis” republic. Free time. Overnight in the hotel.

Day 5.

Preparing to leave. The continuation of the excursion around Vilnius. Leaving from the Vilnius airport.
